Dear West View Methodist Church
FEEDBACK FROM DUKE DIVINITY SCHOOL
I had a fruitful week in North Carolina conducting interviews for students who have applied to do an internship at a South African church in 2017. I was impressed with the high calibre of the students, and look forward to receiving a student at West View next June and July. I had a chance to reconnect with Will and Amanda Hasley, Victor Greene and Pat Hecker, who all asked me to bring you their love and greetings. I was also able to worship at Edenton Street UMC http://www.esumc.org/ , where Will serves as Pastor for Discipleship, and return with some fresh insights and ideas for God’s future for us here at West View.
Last Sunday evening’s Confirmation service was a wonderful celebration of God’s saving work in the lives of our youth. It’s been so good for all of us, during the worship services leading up to Confirmation, to hear the testimonies that the confirmands have shared with us. Thank you to James and his team of volunteers for investing in the lives of our youth. One parent wrote: “(My child) has grown from attending confirmation, both emotionally and spiritually, and for this I am truly grateful. We have seen a change in (him) and it is a result of the confirmation process”. We celebrate the way that Confirmation is changing lives, as we seek to be a community ‘where life change happens’.
FLOWER MINISTRY IN 2017
A CALL TO PRAYER AND FASTING FOR SOUTH AFRICA
In the wake of the release of the State Capture Report, Bishop Zipho Siwa has called on all Methodists to spend the week of 13th to 20th November in prayer and fasting for South Africa. You can read his statement on our website (www.westview.org.za). Please join with all Methodists across Southern Africa in praying for justice and integrity in South Africa. Let us hear the promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.
BAGS 4 LOVE CHRISTMAS APPEAL
During November, we’re collecting non-perishable food for those in need. If you’d like to express God’s love in this practical way, please place your donated food into the box in the church foyer during the remaining Sundays of November. Donations will go to needy children and families in our community, Mooiplaas & Olievenhoutbosch.

2016 continues to be a tough year for the finances of West View. Tithes and Offering in October were R23 830 below budget, bringing our year-to-date shortfall on tithes and offerings to R216 000. As we enter the season where some of you may be receiving bonuses or 13th cheques, would you prayerfully consider making December that month where we ‘klap’ our shortfall, and position ourselves to enter 2017 in a healthy financial position.
Yours in Christ
