Dear West View family

Can you believe that the start of Lent is already just a week away! It’s a time for us as a congregation to be stretched, to grow in faith and in knowledge of God.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKES
Shrove Tuesday is a traditional feast day before the start of the Lenten Fast. Pancakes were made as a way of using up the last eggs and oil before the period of fasting began. Come along and celebrate this fun tradition by feasting on pancakes prepared by Khuluma. You’ll be supporting the fantastic work that Khuluma does offering counselling to the community. Pancakes will be on sale on the terrace between 12h00 and 18h00 on Tuesday, and 12h00 and 18h30 on Wednesday. Sweet@ R5; Savoury@ R15 or 3 for R40. To donate batter or to pre-order, contact Viv This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

ASH WEDNESDAY
Our Ash Wednesday services are at 10am and 6h30pm on Wednesday 14th February. In my message, we’ll be exploring the relationship between Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day. I’ll also be launching our Lenten Campaign, Make a Difference (see below).

MAKE A DIFFERENCE LENT CAMPAIGN
If you have a yearning for your life to count; a yearning to make an impact on this world for God, then this campaign is just for you. If you are not already part of an Alpha, Disciple or Home Group, I encourage you to join a group for the 6 weeks of Lent, as you discover, together with other Christ-followers, how God is calling YOU to make a difference in God’s world. Groups will meet for half an hour after the Ash Wednesday Services for orientation. To join a Make a Difference group for Lent, or for more details, contact Margot at the church office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The Make A Difference Daily Devotional Guide will also be on sale at R10 or for download from our website.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH YOUR GENEROSITY
Throughout Lent, we’re partnering with Sutherland SPAR to bless households who are in financial trouble. SPAR will be creating hampers in buckets for us with enough groceries to last a family of 4 for a week and they will be on sale for R200 from Ash Wednesday for the duration of lent. So, when you pop in there after church for your Sunday lunch and treats, why not grab a hamper from the front of the tills and bring them along next Sunday to church.

FINANCES
Thank you to all of you who were faithful in your tithes and offerings through the tight month of January. Tithes and Offerings for January totalled R480 000. Whilst this is R27 000 below our monthly budget for tithes and offerings, it is a respectable income for what is normally a tight month for church finances.

FLOWERS
Donating flowers for display during Sunday worship is a wonderful way to mark a significant occasion in your life. It may be a birthday, a wedding anniversary, the anniversary of a loved one’s passing, or even just a thanksgiving for God’s goodness. Your special occasion will be mentioned in the Sunday bulletin, and the flowers beautify our place of worship. The cost is R250. To reserve your Sunday, contact Barbara Girdlestone This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 084 084 6965

STAFF RESTRUCTURING
Our staff team has undergone a restructuring. We welcome Cisca Forder onto staff. Cisca is responsible for New Members Integration and Volunteer Recruitment. She is also taking over as Worship Co-ordinator. Matthew Tayler steps in the role of Receptionist, and continues as Membership Database Co-ordinator. Bakang Pitse has moved out of Reception into the fulltime role of Finance Assistant. We wish each of these staff members well in their new positions.

CAN YOU OFFER HOSPITALITY TO A W.A. DELEGATE?
West View is hosting the District Women’s Auxiliary (W.A) meetings over the weekend of 9th – 11th March. 60 delegates from across our District will be in attendance. If you have a guest room in your home, and are able to assist with accommodating a delegate, please contact Merle Munday 012 651 5142 or 072 345 7315. Hosts are asked to provide a light breakfast, and assist with lifts to and from the church in the morning and evening.

WEST VIEW COLLEGE TODDLER CLASS
West View College’s Toddler Class has extra spaces. If you are looking for a fantastic Christian Pre-School for your toddler, contact the school at 012 660 2572.
