25 May 2017

Dear West View family

Today is both Ascension Day and Africa Day. On this day in which we celebrate Jesus’ Lordship over all of creation; join with me in praying for God to reign over South Africa in these critical days in our journey towards justice and prosperity for all. I encourage you to read the recent report from the South African Council of Churches regarding the crossroads we find ourselves at. You can read it here: https://goo.gl/pO8rkr. Let us pray the prayer for Africa: “God bless Africa, Guard her children, Guide her leaders, and give her peace”

Our men's camp is being held on the weekend of 4th-6th August at Camp Shekinah in the Mabula Game Reserve outside Bela-Bela. The theme is “Our Damascus Road”. Click here for details https://goo.gl/cbNYBb. The weekend is open to all men 18 and older.

We welcome our 2017 Duke intern, Gregory Milton in our midst. We are blessed to have him as part of our community for the next 2 months.

STARTING TIME OF 09h45 service

The late arrival of congregation members at the 09h45 service can be disruptive for those worshipping God. Acknowledging the difficulty of getting children up and going during the winter months, and the challenges of parking around our campus, I encourage worshippers to aim to arrive on campus at 09h30, to ensure that you have time to park, register your children in Sunday School, and be in the sanctuary by 09h45 when worship begins.

Philip will be returning from leave in early June, and will have the month of June with us, before taking up appointment at Glen Methodist Church in Garsfontein on 1st July. Philip's farewell service will be the morning services on 25th June, and we will take time to thank Philip for his contribution to our lives over the past 4 years. We will have a farewell tea with eats after the 09h45 service.

Rev Raymond Keet will be joining the Pastoral Team on 1st July. Please offer a warm welcome to Raymond, his wife Robyn, and their dogs Roxy and Jessica. Raymond will have pastoral oversight both of Khuluma and of the Spiritual Formation Cluster at West View. He will also pastor Mnandi Methodist Church.

Synod 2017 elected Rev Sidwell Mokgothu to be our next bishop when Bishop Themba’s term ends in December 2018. Sidwell is a gifted leader, a deep thinker, and has provided leadership in our District for nearly two decades. We look forward to his passionate leadership of our District.

This Sunday is the last Sunday of tithe month, during which we as a congregation rise to the challenge to all tithe to God. It is a month in which we give with great joy and gratitude to God, for God’s grace and goodness.

Grace and Peace
