Dear West View family

In this post-Easter season, may you experience the powerful presence of Jesus, risen conqueror and Lord.

REPORT BACK FROM BISHOP THEMBA ON SKYDIVING FUNDRAISER

Many of you supported Bishop Themba’s sponsored skydive last year. Here is his thank you letter to you for your generosity:

Dear Friends

I write with great joy, appreciation and thanks to God for everyone who responded to my request for support in our Mission and Church Planting effort. The contributions large and small have now been received, and continue to come. So far we have raised in excess of R500 000 from my Sky Diving experience and other sources. I am thrilled with the response; especially that we have begun funding the appointment of a Deacon in Maun, Botswana; a Bible Woman at Mashobye in the Far North Mission Area, and will be appointing an Evangelist to Laphalale. In just three months, our work in Maun and Mashobye is beginning to bear fruit. So on behalf of the Limpopo District, I thank you most heartily. May the Lord continue to bless you as you continue to offer your support and generosity to many who need to hear and experience the Good News of our Lord and Saviour.

Grace and Peace

Rev Themba V. Mntambo

District Bishop – Limpopo

MIDWEEK WORSHIP EXPERIENCE

Come along to our special Midweek Worship Experience this Wednesday 20th April, 19h00 in the sanctuary.

REMEMBERING DI BARRELL

Numerous of our members will remember Di Barrell who worshipped and served at West View for many years. Di was our “Mother Theresa” figure, a person whose servanthood was like a beacon to this community. Age could not deter her from ministry and amongst other areas of service, she visited the Elim soup kitchen weekly where her presence was eagerly welcomed by all as she embraced and accepted every person in need. She shared not only in the feeding of the poor, but gave of her wisdom and comfort to all who gathered there. Di’s faith was unshakeable and she leaves a legacy of love and compassion. We mourn her passing, but know that she now sits at the feet of her Saviour, and in that we rejoice as we remember her.

FINANCIAL UPDATE

Than you to all who responded to the Finance Committee’s letter of appeal following the lower than budgeted tithes and offerings in January and February. Giving through tithes and offerings in March was 1.8% ahead of budget, and our income for the first quarter of 2016 looks like this:

February 500 000 444 300 -55 700 -119 400
March 500 000 508 900    8 900 -110 500

REVEAL SURVEY FEEDBACK

Thank you to the 302 people who completed the Reveal Spiritual Life Reveal Survey. This is a significant improvement on the 239 participants who took the survey in 2014, and represents 50% of our weekend attendance – up from 40% in 2014. We’ve received the report from the survey, and the Exec will be analyzing the results in coming months. We’ll share the outcome with the congregation, together with decisions that flow from that analysis, as we discern the Spirits wisdom.

BISHOP SIWA’S STATEMENT

Many of you will have read the Methodist Church’s Statement released following the Constitutional Court’s decision on Nkandla. In case you missed it, you can read the statement here: http://www.methodist.org.za/news/03312016-1309

UPDATE ON DITSHEGO PROPERTY PURCHASE

We are still waiting for transfer to go through on the purchase of R/165 Lochner Street. Volunteers and Home Groups have been hard at work renovating the house in order to have it ready for when the children and house mothers from the House of Safety move in, in coming months. Thank you to those individuals and Home Groups who have given their time, resources and energy to assisting in the renovation of this wonderful property that God has provided us with. What a wonderful expression of God’s love you have shown.

CELEBRATE WITH MIDSTREAM METHODIST ON THEIR ENLARGED SANCTUARY

We celebrate with our sister congregation, Midstream Methodist, the completion of enlargements to their worship sanctuary. Well done, Midstream, and all praise to God!

MAY IS TEKKIE TAX MONTH!

Support Khuluma’s Tekkie Tax Fundraiser by buying your shoe laces and stickers after Sunday services during May. Khuluma won a prize last year for the most money raised through Tekkie Tax. Let’s see if we can bring home the cup again this year, and help support our Counselling Centre.
